ZZZ. It's 1;15am. Supposed to be doing a research proposal but here I am. Anyway, I've always wanted to be a proper blogger or at least pen down my thoughts here much more frequently. Sigh, school's soooo incredibly boring. I mean I enjoy what I learn, but to be tested about what we learn? Screw whoever that came up with exams. Pfft. Do you know what can increase my 'spirit of learning'? Going to UB in New York. I really want to but... Oh well, I'll just leave the entire matter into God's hands. As much as I want something or want something to go my way, but if it's just not in His plans, I want to know it from Him as early as possible! or even ASAP! Anyway, I have a super backlog of entries & more to do. The thoughts that always roaming my mind everyday:
1. The thousands of photos I have to edit & upload (sihui's birthday + zoo + birdpark)
2. Have a more serious music library in itunes
3. Planning for my 21st!

Okay, back to that research proposal now.

how come your leg is still so lsim despite all the runs and u dont have bulky calves?

Thanks for the compliment but I think my calves have actually grown bigger since I started running competitively. Running long distance usually do not result in huge calves as we use the muscles less explosively as compared to short distance runners. So, most sprinters have huge calves because they need the energy and boost, and therefore they really work on their legs.

Actually I just buy whatever shampoo my dad buys and it's usually like Sunsilk (the golden bottle) or Dove (hair fall therapy I think). My hair roots are really weak and so I do lose a lot of hair everyday. Oh, I'm quite lazy so I do not use conditioner often and I'm too lazy to drag myself to a salon and sit myself in a chair for like 4 hours.

I really have no clue about the communication in Murdoch but the comms degree here in UB is pretty interesting! And since it's an American degree, there is a more holistic and well-rounded curriculum. You get to learn other stuff not relating to communication such as music, philosophy, french, err is math counted? Hahahaha

Even though today was a pretty much slack day (with the exception of work where I was rushing like a mad woman).

1. Waking Up To 'Good Morning' Messages
I love waking up to see '1 new message' on my phone. Usually Edwin wakes up so much earlier than me so he'll be the one that says good morning first. So today, I had '6 new messages' because I woke up really late. Like nearly 12pm. So yeah, I'm happy because I could wake up to a bombardment of his text messages.

2. ERP
On the way while walking to the gym, I had to cross the road at the pedestrian crossing. So, if it's a green man for us, it'll be a red light for the motorists right? Just when the traffic light turned red, the ERP right after the traffic light came on. HEEHEE :D I saw all those anguished faces of the motorists & those two men on the motorists particularly complained extra loudly. & that made me smile more to myself. HAHAHA.

3. Kid In The Fountain
While waiting for the lift, a kid, probably from Japan, was playing at the fountain. The fountain was only shooting upwards ONE jetstream of water. The kid ran in it for about 10 seconds before the fountain was fully turned on & was gushing. He was caught totally unware and so he left one side of his crocs behind in the fountain. The mum & dad laughed. Then the dad cheerfully ran into the fountain with all those stream of water gushing upwards to retrieve the slipper

Honestly, countdown was such a bore and so was the start of the new year. I thought it would have been better if I made the choice of countdown-ing with my parents & church friends but no. Yes it was fun a little but not as fun & happened ing as compared to the years before. Am I losing my social life now that I'm attached? Do people think I'm not fun anymore. Oh well, I hope things will pick up from here on. Really, I hate making choices.

2011: The Year In Review

2011's coming and going & I thought I'll take stock of everything that has gone by. Hope it'll be a good lengthy post since I have 8 more hours at work, should make good use of this time that I have. Gym's kinda empty! Good time to blog. 2011 has been pretty eventful, 2010 was really more of a time to enjoy & do stuff that I couldn't do once I entered uni.

First and foremost, I'm currently in University at Buffalo studying communication. I thank God for the family He has blessed me with. I thank God for the friends in my life. I thank God for getting me through the ups & downs in 2011. I thank God for bringing me thus far.

January
The year kicked off with a great time with the fairfield clique at MBS for countdown. I remember it was raining heavily but by the time the night rolled around, it was good & clear. HAHA, since only 2-4 people could go to the rooftop, we decided to stay at the lift lobby to watch the fireworks at the marina bay countdown. I think we were at like the 42th floor and wanted to watch the fireworks with our drinks from the room. But our floor was already packed so we went a floor up & the window space beside the lift was crowded too. It was nearly midnight and jingming was already drunk and we still had not found a window space to countdown. hahaha. In the end, we had to make do with a floor that had lesser people as compared to other floors to countdown and watch the 5 minute fireworks show.

Also in January, was the 1st batch of my friends that were being commissioned as an officer in OCS. Since school hasn't started I was pretty free! Went for Jocelyn's 21st birthday party at a chalet and stayed over. The next day early in the morning, I rushed down to Clementi Macs to meet the girls to throw allicia a surprise birthday mini party! What a pig she was (:

Friends became closer friends. 2nd sem of school had started & even though the 6 of us (pris, shan, jacq, jo & sam) had varying timetables, we still found time to meet & have lunch.

The CHINESE NEW YEAR month! I remember going for last minute exercises, diets and tanning to get into shape. Reunion dinners for both sides of the family

Over the past few days, I've been trying to prepare the Christmas presents. At this rate, I think I'll never get anything done ): STUPID ME STUPID UGC ON MONDAY.

Got my new $20 scheduler, no more using of Fairfield diary, cheap cheap $4! Let's hope that with the arrival of 2012, I'll be more disciplined, more hardworking, more practical, more organized,... Gonna jot everything down in that red thick scheduler, even my QT I guess. Yeah, so what if it's a private thing, I don't really care about what others think when they read my scheduler. Writing it out or seeing it on paper/screen, helps me to organize my thoughts.

how did you start running and how to get one started on running?

Oddly, I started running only because of NAFTA's 2.4km. I only realized that I could somehow will myself to stretch my limits in Secondary 2. Ever since then, I told myself that 'I can do this!' and try to run my best at every run. HAHA (I secretly feel a sense of satisfaction whenever I overtake someone). To get yourself started, run with friends as they can encourage you along the way. Also, sign yourself up for 10km or even 21km runs to push you towards a certain goal. Start small, run your best & progress far.

I know I have not updated this blog as much as I want to and I know I probably have not posted anything regarding this either. So, here it goes: It's coming to four months since I jumped into this boat and it really got my heart pumping real fast. No, it's not a him, it's track and field. I still can remember my 1st training, which was 14 June 2011. I was dead tired, muscles aching and super fatigued after training. Joining track and field didn't cross my mind at all when I came into SIM, all I knew was that I wanted to do something new and keep myself fit. It was during summer semester when someone pulled me in to just give a shot at this sport. Since muay thai wasn't conducting any sessions because of UOL's exams, I told myself, fineeee I'll go since I have nothing to do. HAHA.

As it turns out, time zoomed past real fast. In the beginning, I kept denying that I was still thinking about track and field because I really wanted to join a CCA that's new and probably a team sport too. After like 3 weeks of training, it was decided, I was definitely staying in this 'I-run-to-run' cca. The team were really supportive during training and friendly outside training, like during dinners. It was hard to connect with most of them at first maybe because I was new? Or maybe because I speak too much English? HAHA.

In 3 months, I lost quite a lot of something. I don't know whether it's fat or muscle. HAHA. Anyway, I couldn't really tell whether I improved or not. Then, summer semester ended & I went to Perth for 2 weeks. I tried exercising there. I really tried. SUPER COLD AIR. When I came back, I ran everyday, pushing myself hard because on that coming Sunday, it was the SAFRA Army Half Marathon 2011. I knew I could do better for that run if not for my stupid stomachache but with an official timing of 2hrs and 9mins, I was somewhat satisfied. WHY? Because it was waaaaay better than my last year's timing. Like I was 20-25mins slower last year.

Then came the real test of how far I've become, SUniG 2011. A 6KM run at Bedok Reservoir with a super incline just before 3KM. 6 girls from each school, so that makes 24 girls altogether. During the race itself, it was tiring and I gave my all. My heart and lungs 'burned' so badly. I guess I wasn't really nervous about this race because I knew I already couldn't come in Top 10 or whatsoever. And I had pretty much convinced myself that all that I wanted out of this race was to know that I gave my all and my best effort. I did not really care for the results/timings, all I wanted was the feeling that I had ran my best (cause I usually feel dissatisfied with myself after a run). 6km came and gone, & yes, I did my best. Oh, with a timing of 30mins 39 secs I think. I don't want to sound complacent or boast, but if I can hit 30mins for 6km now, what can I achieve in half a year's time? Or 1 year? Certainly better I hope, hahaha, I hope my legs and wallet can last.

I always tell everyone that I can't run but I always knew from Secondary 2 onwards that I could run, but I didn't know that I could really run. I thank my coach and especially my teammates. Cheering for one another, words of encouragement and even a simple clap works wonders during training. I also thank God, schoolmates and church friends. Without these people, Fiona Ghui wouldn't have these slender legs. Nah, I'm just kidding. I really appreciate this new family that I have found, don't think I would have been able to achieve the same thing if I joined soccer. THANKS SIM T&F (:

just to get you started, you'll need a combination of diet & exercise. just to get you going, 20mins of RUNNING every day, medium to hard pace, NOT JOGGING. either take 3-5 small meals in a day or start with a heavy breakfast, light lunch & even lighter dinner. there are many ways to lose weight, this is just 1 of them.
